DIGBOI, June 4: In an unpleasant development that took place here on Sunday night at Digboi AOD Santipara Area, an employee of the corporation, Bhabananda Buragohain, who was off duty, was allegedly assaulted by his senior official R Teran, the manager at AOD Power and Utility department. According to the victim, who serves in the capacity of Junior Engineer (Assistant) at the electrical department under Power and Utility department, he had gone to the working site and asked the officials engaged in the work about the restoration of power service in some of the affected areas when the official allegedly assaulted him without any rhyme and reason. “I fell on the ground profusely bleeding and I was immediately taken to Civil Hospital. Later I was shifted to the ICU at Digboi AOD Hospital,” the victim said, who was in the ICU till filing of this report.

Meanwhile, the Assam Oil Company Labour Union, while reacting strongly to the incident, staged a demonstration in front of the AOD Administrative Complex building here on Monday morning and demanded the AOD management to immediately initiate disciplinary action against the erring official. On the other hand, Minakshi Buragohain, the wife of the victim, lodged an FIR at Digboi Police Station.

According to Mahesh Bora, the OC Digboi Police Station, police are investigating the case from all angles, including the circumstances leading to the commission of the offense. However, an AOD official source added that Buragohain, who was not on duty, had created a commotion in the official bungalow of Teran when the official was already in the field attending to emergency power restoration service in Santipara area. “Trespassing an official residential area at late night, that too off the duty hours of the employee, creating a sense of insecurity among the dependents of the official on duty are also equally significant aspects to be taken into consideration which might have led to the commission of the offense,” added one of the top AOD officials who described the incident as ‘unfortunate’. “We will inquire into the actual happenings and initiate action against the wrong doer,” assured one of the top officials of the management.
