Silchar, May 14: 37 Assam Rifles distributed solar lamps to the villagers of Namdailong, under Jirighat Police Station on Sunday. Namdailong village is one of the most populated in the border areas of Jiribam and Assam with an approximate population of more than 1000 people. There is still no electricity supply in the village and hence keeping in mind the discomfort of the villagers, the lamps were distributed by the Assam Rifles. A rational view was taken during the distribution of the lamps, wherein emphasis was laid on the families whose kids are studying in senior classes or the houses which are remotely located. Assam Rifles officials visited each and every house of the village before short listing the families for the distribution.

After the lamps distribution, a career counseling lecture was delivered by the officer of the Assam Rifles wherein he motivated boys and girls to join Assam Rifles and Army. In addition to this he will again address the students during the next meeting of the students’ union which is planned soon. This was followed by a grand community feast which was hosted in the church complex. Around 300 people turned up during the community feast. In addition to this Assam Rifles expressed that they will keep extending the support to the village in the best possible manner in future too. The village authorities and the student union highly appreciated the efforts of 37 Assam Rifles.
