Awareness meetings on right to food, human trafficking

LAKHIMPUR, June 26: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Adivasi Women Association (AAAWA) held a series of awareness meetings on two crucial subjects in Adivasi-living areas of Lakhimpur district recently. As a part of the series, the organization organized an awareness meeting on ‘Right to Food’ at Junubasti Adivasi High School in the presence of more than 400 people. The meeting was chaired by Chibirona Topno, assistant secretary of the central committee of AAAWA, while Supply Officer BK Kachari and Supply Inspector L Mohan took part in the event as the resource persons. The resource persons highlighted the various aspects of Public Distribution System while replying to various queries of the gathering.

Along with the members of Lakhimpur AAAWA, general secretary of Lakhimpur district Adivasi Student Association, David Soymurum and adviser George Tirky were among those who were present in the programme. On the other hand, the organization convened another awareness meeting on human trafficking at the community hall of the Deezoo Tea Estate on the same day. It was chaired by Sangeeta Tete, secretary of Lakhimpur district AAAWA. Farhana Ahmed, Sajjad Hussain, IC of Chilanibari Police Outpost Dambaru Dutta, Mary Tirky and Welfare Officer of Deezoo Tea Estate attended the programme as resource persons.
