Tezpur, June 20: To commemorate the unmatched contribution of cultural icon and revolutionary figure Kalaguru Bishnu Prashad Rabha, various organizations, schools and colleges in and around the historic Tezpur town like Koalguru Sangeet Mohavidyalay, Ban Theatre, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Sonitpur and Tezpur unit AASU, Bishnu Rabha Cremation Ground and Trimurty Uddyan Committee on Wednesday observed the 49th Bishnu Rabha Divas.

Commemorating the Kalaguru in the morning here at the Jyoti Bharati Poki (a museum dedicated to Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and the ancestral home of Agarwala), the community as part of their day-long programme paid floral tributes to the cultural icon. In the evening, a cultural extravaganza was held at the same venue in which the local artistes and the invited cultural troupe performed Rabha Sangeet and dance.

On the other hand, the Tezpur chapter of Axam Xahitya Xabha also organized a tribute programme as part of the Bishnu Rabha Divas at the Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhavan. The programme started with the lighting of the earthen lamp by Hemanta Barua, president of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, and it was followed by floral tribute to the Kalaguru by social worker Mrinalini Chetia, Bishnu Rabha Award winner Krishna Das Nath, president of Ban Theatre, Bankim Sarma, Dr Saru Chaharia Nath and others.

While lighting the lamp, Hemanta Barua spoke on the importance of the day and said that Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha was himself an institution who was a versatile genius as well as an expert in politics, sports, architecture, acting, dancing and writing. He added that Bishnu Rabha was a good politician and great social reformer also. Barua also urged the government to establish a museum to preserve his historic creation which was on the verge of destruction.

Speaking on the occasion, Bishnu Rabha Award winner Krishna Das Nath urged the new generation to follow the ideology of the cultural icon, reflecting a better and a classless society. Along with this, the Kalaguru was also commemorated at Trimurty Uddyan here at Padum Pukhuripar wherein MLA of Tezpur LAC, Brindaban Goswami, while paying tribute to the Kalaguru, urged all concerned to make the dreams of Bishnu Rabha a reality by following his unmatched ideology of serving the nation through ultimate dedication.

PATHSALA: Along with the rest of the State, Bishnu Rabha Divas was observed by various cultural organizations, schools and colleges at Pathsala. In Tapoban, the programme started with offering floral tribute to the photograph of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha and lighting of earthen lamp by Kumud Kalita who runs the shelter home for differently-abled abandoned/orphaned children named ‘Tapoban’. Kalita has been working for the uplift of the differently-abled kids since a long period of time.

Meanwhile, Sikhapith Adarsha School of Pathsala also observed Rabha Divas with a day-long programme. In the programme, teachers and staff of the school delivered their valuable speech about the life and achievements of Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha.

GOLAGHAT: Bishnu Jyoti Vidyapith of Hatiakhowa observed the Bishnu Rabha Divas with a day-long programme on Wednesday. The programme started with offering floral tribute and lighting of lamp by social worker Padmeswar Bora. The students, guardians and attendants paid tribute to cultural icon Bishnu Prasad Rabha. 300 students were present and they remembered the contribution and activities of Bishnu Prasad Rabha. The programme was conducted by teachers Dipak Bora and Debajit Bora. The students performed the evergreen songs of Bishnu Prasad Rabha. The director of the institute, Prabin Das spoke about the contribution of Bishnu Prasad Rabha to the Assamese cultural and society. In the programme, artiste Purna Hazarika took part as special spokesperson and educationist Anil Sarma as special guest.
