Consumer goods manufacturing giant Britannia opened a new Rs 170 crore manufacturing plant in Assam in the presence of Britannia Industries Managing Director Varun Berry. FMCG will hire a total of 1,000 people for the new project.

Varun Berry said that this new unit will fulfill the various demands from North East. He further added that the opening of this plant will add a vision to be a total food company and also build up the state’s position in marketing in the packaged food industry.

Women are involved in 70 percent of the recruitment of factory's employees and are well represented in all three different shifts that the factory operates. The total force of workers will be around 1,000 people at the time of the factory's full-grown operations. Varun Berry further added.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the plant and said "We want to make our State the entrance to the whole of South East Asia and we have attained certain achievements in the past 2-3 years. We are hopeful and looking forward to the opportunities and employment possibilities that these newly launched Britannia Industries are going to provide."
