Tezpur, June 18: The bhoomi puja ceremony and laying of the foundation stone of the proposed cancer care hospital was held on Monday at Gerua Pathar near Tezpur Medical College and Hospital, Bihaguri, around 15 km away from Tezpur town. While addressing the gathering, Sonitpur Deputy Commissioner Monoj Kumar Deka said, “The Assam Cancer Care Foundation (ACCF) has been formed as a joint partnership with the Government of India to create a unique, first of its kind, three-level cancer grid in the State with the objective of creating patient-centric cancer institutions which will bring affordable and standardized care near to the patient’s home.”

He also said that overall 19 cancer care hospitals would be set up across the State in collaboration with the Tata Trust with the objective to provide modern treatment to the patients of the State and also of the Northeast. The hospital in Tezpur will be constructed at Level 2 and will have modern diagnostics facilities.
