Canopy Collapses, 44 injured at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Rally

In a rally participated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in West Bengal, almost 44 people were injured after the collapse of the canopy. In the middle of the PM’s speech, suddenly the canopy started collapsing which led to a chaotic situation among the huge crowd attending the rally. Prime Minister Modi stopped his speech and immediately ordered his security personnel to help the people. He repeatedly urged the people not to run and climb up in the poles of the tent.

The injured were taken to hospital on motorcycle and on the ambulance that follows the Prime Minister’s convoy and assisted by his personal Doctor. PM Modi became emotional when he went to the hospital to visit the injured. Most of the injured are women as reported by news source.

The reason of the collapse of the huge canopy was the heavy rain in the Midnapore area during the program. Also the canopy was shaken as many people tried to climb the poles of it to see the glimpse of the PM for once. The officials are blaming the government structural engineers if they have checked the whole arrangement and termed it as a serious security lapse. However, the Union Minister S.S. Aluwalia, one of the two BJP parliamentarians in Bengal, denying the blame of any mismanagement said that the tent collapsed under its own weight.
