DHUBRI, May 29: The Dhubri civic body, in collaboration with an NGO, has started a campaign to make Dhubri a clean and green city. Biswanabin Bharat Sangha (BNBS), a non-governmental organization, has been creating awareness among the residents to keep their surrounding clean since 2011. But due to lack of proper support from the people, desired success has not been achieved till now. However, now the Dhubri Municipal Board is jointly campaigning with the BNBS in all the wards and providing all the logistic to the NGO, so this time they were hopeful to achieve success. Moreover, Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Ananta Lal Gyani is taking keen interest in the campaign and encouraging the NGO and social activists to render their services to keep this historic and heritage town clean.

In the meantime, a visibility of cleanliness could be seen in the town but there is a long way still to go to make the residents completely aware of the importance of cleanliness. Speaking at an awareness meeting held at BNBS hall room in ward no 3 recently, Executive Officer of Dhubri Municipal Board, Jintu Borah said that it was not possible for the board alone to keep the town clean and it needed people’s participation.

“So, some scientific approaches have been planned like composting of garbage with segregation of wastes in various wards. Further, we are also planning separate team for collecting only plastic materials from door-to-door. It is in the line of the new concept – Reduce, Re-use and Recycle plastic materials. Both composting of garbage and collecting plastic materials are income-generating activities, so we are in fact going to implement another concept – Your Garbage is our Resource - soon,” Borah added.

Junior Engineer of Dhubri Municipal Board and urban nodal officer of Swachh Bhartat Mission (SBM), Siddhartha Bose elaborately spoke on the composting of garbage unit and appealed to the residents to give stress on segregating of wastes into solid and non-degradable.

The awareness meeting was presided over by the chairperson of Dhubri Municipal Board, Pushpa Malo while a host of social workers and residents addressed the meeting, including social worker Sushanta Kar, secretary of Lions Club of Dhubri, Sanjay Sethia, Ward Commissioner Nirupam Chandra Ghose, social activist and tree planter Kalidas Saha, secretary of Hind Yuvak Sangha, Lakhi Razak, social worker, Dev Kumar and a resident, Manna Dey.
