SIVASAGAR, May 19: Along with other parts of the State, the Indian National Congress (INC), Sivasagar District Committee, organized a protest rally against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill and submitted a memorandum to the chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill through the Deputy Commissioner on Friday. Addressing the rally in front of the DC’s office against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, former MLA of Thowra and Sivasagar District Congress Committee president Sushanta Borgohain claimed that the Congress party had sacrificed more for Assam than any other political party. He subsequently went on to cite the case of the Assam Accord to justify his point. He further said that the State Congress was not against the Bengali community, but against all immigrants from other countries post 1971, irrespective of their religious faiths. He also added that the party did not want to see the bond of friendly relations among all communities distorted and therefore, would oppose the BJP tooth and nail to stop implementing their hidden agenda. The demonstration was attended by Pramir Gogoi, Nava Gohain and most of the senior Congress
