Crackdown on Illegal Extraction of sands from River beds, 7 excavators seized by Forest Dpt

Guwahati: In a major success to the operational raids conducted periodically by the Assam Forest Department to put check on the illegal extraction of sands from river beds across the state, 5 huge sand mahals which are believed to be the hotbeds of illegal extraction of Kamrup District viz. 1 mahal of Besimari,2 mahals of Kahua & 3 Mahals of Bahatpur, all three places along the Kulsi River were demolished by the territorial division of Kamrup West under the direction of Divisional Forest Officer Ranjan Goswami with support from the staffs of the division and police personnel.

A total of 7 excavators were also seized during the operation which was used for extracting illegal sand in the above mahals.

It is significant to mention that these mahals were kept in abeyance due to the reports about the presence of river dolphin by the Wildlife Institute of India in Kulshi River.

Meanwhile, the Forest Minister Parimal Suklabaidya has praised the team about this impressive success and has also assured that the department will continue to act hard and loud against all illegal natural resources extraction across the state to fulfill its commitment towards the protection & preservation of the natural resources and the flora and fauna of Assam.
