‘Denying ST status to Koch-Rajbongshi community will divide Assamese people’

Bongaigaon, June 4: “The Koch-Rajbongshi community is one of the main communities of Assam. But since long it has been betrayed. The legal demand of the community, which is to be granted ST status, is yet to be fulfilled. This is injustice to the community. If this legal demand of the Koch-Rajbongshi is not fulfilled, it might create division among the Assamese people,” said Akhil Gogoi, president of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) in Bongaigaon on Monday. He said this while taking part in the three-hour long demonstration of All Koch- Rajbongshi Students’ Union in Bongaigaon to demand ST categorization of the Koch- Rajbongshi community. He also appealed to AKRSU to continue their agitation until their demand is fulfilled. AKRSU had staged a three-hour long demonstration in all district headquarters. In Bongaigaon, the demonstration was staged under the leadership of Gokul Barman, AKRSU general secretary, where a good number of activists had participated.
