Devendra Fadnavis back as Maharashtra CM, Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar shocked

In a turn of tide, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis took oath as chief minister of Maharastra in Raj Bhawan in Mumbai. NCP leader Ajit Pawar was sworn in as deputy CM in early morning hours. This development in Maharashtra government came as a shock to Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena among other parties as it was just hours back when Sharad Pawar confirmed that Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray will be the next CM of Maharastra. Sharad Pawar, who saw his nephew turning the tables on him and was miffed, expressed his disappointment on Twitter stating, ‘Ajit Pawar’s decision to support the BJP to form the Maharastra Government is his personal decision and not that of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). We place on record that we do not support or endorse this decision of his’.

This will be the second term of Devendra Fadnavis who was sworn in office on 31st October 2014. After taking oath, the CM stated, ‘People has given us a clear mandate, but Shiv Sena tried to ally with other parties after results. As a result, President’s rule was imposed. Maharashtra needs a stable government, not a khichdi government’. The BJP won 105 seats in the 288 member assembly and was followed by Shiv Sena who held 56 seats, the NCP 54 seats and Congress party held 44 seats.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with many other leaders congratulated Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar for their new roles in the Maharashtra Government.
