Dhansiri Irrigation officials not willing for transfer

Our Correspondent

MANGALDAI, June 29: Dhansiri Irrigation Project - a major irrigation project of the state was commissioned in 1975-1976 with an estimated project cost of Rs 15.83 crore which most unfortunately is yet to be completed though 43 years have passed. Insurgency, as often claimed by the high official of the department, is one of the reason for its delay in completion. But is insurgency the reason for this delay? If insurgency is the reason then why a section of the officials working in the project are not willing to leave this project even after the receipt of transfer order? A section of the officials who have already completed more than 20 years of service in the project at a stretch are reportedly approaching higher authority or politicians of their own seeking stay of their transfer order.

According to the information on June 11 last, the Irrigation department vide a notification issued had transferred three officials of this project as per departmental procedure. They are namely Assistant Executive Engineer of Cannal IV Sub Division under Cannal II division Dhruba Jyoti Baishya, Assistant Executive Engineer of Cannal II Division Ujjwal Hazarika and Assistant Engineer (SC) of Cannal II Division Brijen Deka. Baishya has been transferred as Assistant Executive Engineer at Borpothar Irrigation Sub Division at Silonijan in Karbi Anglong, Hazarika as Assistant Executive Engineer at Itakhola in Sonitpur district and Brijen Deka as the Assistant Executive Engineer (TC) at Cannal II Division. But surprisingly all the officers without taking any permission from their departmental head are reportedly absent in their office and are reportedly trying their level best to get the transfer order stayed. Perhaps the Dhansiri Irrigation project has been transformed into a goldmine.
