Guwahati: Following the recent killings of the five linguistic minority people in Tinsukia on Thursday, top official sources of Assam Police informed The Sentinel-News that all the national agencies have taken over the case and are now looking in all the strategic levels into the incident.

They also mentioned that these are attempts to destabilize the situation on the ground and get the two major communities in the state to come out against each other.

“Basically they are fishing in troubled waters taking the background of NRC and Citizenship Amendment Bill to create clashes in the state,” said the top officials from Assam Police.

He further acknowledges the fact that though, the militant outfit ULFA-I had denied the killings in their press statement, but what about the killings of the poor children in Dhemaji earlier. “Whenever this militant outfit has committed such killings they have never accepted it openly,” he adds.

Also, talking about the role of pro-talk ULFA leaders in the state, he further added, “Whether it is them or any other groups, they are all trying to increase their own support base in the state. Similarly, outside parties or inimical countries and their puppets are looking to destabilize the situation.”

He further shared one of the recent tweeter links of the Assam Freedom Party which are allegedly run by some Pakistan users claiming referendum over killings of 2,409 Assamese people by Indian Army in the year 2018.

On the other hand, Special DGP, Pallab Bhattacharya said, “The militant outfit ULFA-I had denied the matter, but the matter of fact is they are now taking a tactical stand as of now. We will come to know about it in details after our investigation comes to a logical conclusion.”

Bhattacharya added, “The pro-talks ULFA leaders were arrested for making communal and provocative statements which they made earlier.”

It may be mentioned that pro-talk ULFA leader Jiten Dutta was sent to 14-day judicial custody today for making inflammatory remarks.

He was booked under case number 448/2018 under section 153, 153 A of the IPC filed at Geetanagar Police Station.

Also talking about MLA Shiladitya Dev, Bhattacharya stated that Assam Police had informed about his alleged communal remarks to the concerned authority and accordingly the matter has been looked into.

Meanwhile, Assam BJP during a press conference on Saturday said that the party has sent a letter to the parliamentary committee against BJP Hojai MLA, Shiladitya Dev over his controversial remarks.

They also mentioned that “If he is proven guilty, actions will be taken against him,” said BJP Spokesperson Rupam Goswami.

“Shiladitya’s statements are not party’s statements. An MLA is a public representative. The party cannot take the decision as per whims. We have to follow a certain path,” said Rupam Goswami, spokesperson, Assam BJP.
