Dibrugarh shopping mall employee found dead in basement, Family alleges murder

Dibrugarh: In a shocking incident, a body of a 25-year-old employee of a shopping mall in Dibrugarh was discovered at the basement of the complex on Saturday morning.

The employee identified as Latu Dihingia was employed at Ranghar Plaza which incidentally was inaugurated a day before on Friday at the Hanuman Singhania road in the heart of the town.

As per reports, on the inaugural day of the mall which houses several big brands like Pantaloons and KFC, the employee who belonged to Barbaruah area of Dibrugarh went missing from midday. Later in the evening hours, his mother lodged a missing person report at the Dibrugarh police station.

Soon after the discovery of the body at around 11 am on Saturday, angry public stormed the shopping mall and demanded an explanation from the manager.

Meanwhile, the family members, relatives and other people from the victim's place also arrived and approached the owner of the mall.

On the other hand, alleging the incident to be a case of murder, the people raised slogans demanding proper investigation and punishment of the culprits. The angry crowd also gheraoed the police station and they had to be chased away by baton-wielding policemen.

"My husband has been murdered. The staff of the shopping mall is behind the incident. Why no one noticed the body lying in the basement for so long. How is it possible? He had joined his job around 20 days ago," the victim's wife Dimpi Dihingia said.

Meanwhile, the Dibrugarh district administration has initiated an enquiry into the incident. The district magistrate also ordered the lockdown of the shopping complex for an indefinite period.

"We will enquire whether the complex has got all the permissions from concerned authorities before opening. We will also look into the security aspects of the building. Till then the complex will remain closed for public," an official said.

The police have picked up 11 employees and 3 security staff for interrogation and examining CCTV footage of the shopping mall.
