Dima Hasao Congress observes Betrayal Day

Haflong, June 6: Following a call given by All India Congress Committee and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, the Dima Hasao DCC (I) observed Betrayal Day on completion of two years’ of misrule of the BJP-led coalition government in Assam, at Haflong on Wednesday. Thousands of Congress workers from different parts of the district thronged to stage mass demonstration in front of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner. Later, the president of DCC (I), Nirmal Langthasa, on behalf of Dima Hasao District Congress Committee, submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Assam for taking action.

The memorandum maintained that the sky rocketing prices of essential commodities during these two years rule of the BJP government had made the life of common people miserable. The Assam government has not taken any steps to control the prices of commodities, rather it has encouraged syndicates, black marketers and hoarders in different sectors. By increasing the land revenue exorbitantly, the Assam government had betrayed the farmers and common people of this State, stated the memorandum.

Like the BJP government at the Centre, in Assam also the BJP government and party were indulging in religious polarizing politics by spreading the venom of caste, creed, community and religion among different sections of people. The Assam Government headed by Sarbananda Sonowal has betrayed the people of Assam in its attempt to dilute and undermine the historic Assam Accord of 1985. The BJP and its allies in Assam betrayed the cause of the State by supporting the most controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, further stated the memorandum. The Congress, while observing this Vishwasghat Divas, urged people to take proper action against the BJP-led coalition Government of Assam headed by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
