DHUBRI, May 16: An FIR was lodged in Dhubri police station against a person for blocking the flow of natural water to agri-fields by constructing concrete wall, in Dhubri district on Tuesday. Mozambel Haque (40) of Bhedla village of Jhagrarpar Goan Panchayat under Dhubri police station, allegedly constructed a wall by the Dhubri-Binnachera Road, encroaching upon khas land (government land) which blocked the natural flow of water to the agri-fields.

On the basis of an FIR lodged by Dhubri Circle Officer, Joy Shankar Sarma at the instance of Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Ananta Lal Gyani, two masons engaged in constructing the wall were picked up from the construction site. Police lodged a case (no 603/18) under section 447,427 and 34 IPC as per land encroachment Act, and are looking out to arrest Haque who is reportedly absconding to evade arrest.

The Dhubri Deputy Commissioner is taking strong action against land encroachers in the district and anti-social elements. A police source said that this was perhaps the first case against land encroacher registered in Dhubri police station. This case is being taken seriously as encroachment of land has become rampant in the district.
