Gang of mobile tower battery thieves nabbed

BOKO, May 31: A highly trained gang of inter-State mobile tower battery thieves was apprehended by Boko police officials on Tuesday night. The group was operating in Northeast India. On Tuesday night, a Tata mini truck (AS 25CC 7169) and a Chevrolet Aveo (AS 01Z 0012) were carrying 108 mobile tower batteries which were stolen from near Tura in Meghalaya by a group of seven thieves. Boko Police intercepted both the vehicles between Boko and Singra. Though they seized the Tata mini truck, the other vehicle sped away but Boko Police finally seized the other vehicle at Sorutezpur (Palashbari). The arrested thieves have been identified as Jeherul Islam from Nalbari, Badaruddin from Hajo, Kamrup, Khoybar Ali from Shialmari, Nalbari, Jalaluddin from Barpeta, Ikram Ali from Mukalmua, Nalbari, Raja Boro from Tamulpur, Baksa and Raja Boro from Barbari, Baksa. Jogendra Barman, officer in-charge of the Boko Police Station said, “This group operated in the entire Northeast. One of them escaped but very soon we will arrest him.”
