Haflong gets 50-bedded cancer care centre

Haflong, June 18: As part of Intensive Care Programme under Assam Cancer Care Foundation, Government of Assam and Tata Trust Initiative, bhoomi pujan of a new Intensive Cancer Care Centre (50 bedded) was ceremonially held at Haflong Civil Hospital Complex along with 18 other districts of Assam. The ceremony was centrally organized in Guwahati in presence of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Member of Parliament Amit Shah and Ratan N. Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts.

In Haflong, the programme was attended by local MLA BB Hagjer, NCHAC chairperson Ranu Langthasa, deputy chairman HB Chetry, NCHAC EM KulendraDaulagupu, EM Ihuing Panme, Deputy Commissioner Amithabh Rajkhowa, NCHAC secretary TT Daulagupu, deputy secretary M J Thaosen and a host of other dignitaries. During the programme, an audio-visual show was presented about the ground-breaking ceremony held in Guwahati and all 19 districts that included Dima Hasao.

During his speech, the Deputy Commissioner conveyed his gratitude to the Assam government for this noble initiative of supporting the people in need. Thanking the government and the ministry for shortlisting Dima Hasao as one of the 19 districts, MLA Hagjer said that the most challenging part was to acquire the equipment for treatment of cancer. With the setting up of this centre, people would definitely be benefitted in the fight against the dreaded disease, he said. The programme was attended by doctors, nurses and official staff of Health Services Department, officers and staff from various departments, senior citizens, NGOs and many others.
