Heavy Exchange of Gunfire in Manipur; Assam Rifles Trooper, PLA Militant killed in Encounter

Imphal: In a massive gunfire exchange between Security Forces and the banned terror outfit Peoples Liberation Army (PLA), an Assam Rifles (AR) trooper and a Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) militant were killed in an encounter at Zouopi area of Chandel District. Reportedly, PLA and Manipur Naga Peoples Front (MNPF) claimed that it was their cadres who conducted the attack.

Earlier on July 9 last, team of PLA’s ‘tactical command’ had attacked troops of 31 AR in between Kangpat Khunou and Kangpat Khullen (in Ukhrul District) which was followed by another attack by a combined team of PLA’s ‘252 Mobile Battalion’ and MNPF against troops of 29 Assam Rifles at Aibol village, Chandel district.

Security Forces (SFs) arrested a People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) militant from palace compound in Imphal East District on September 9.

Separately, a Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) militant was arrested on September 8 from Tentha Khunao in Thoubal District, reports Imphal Free Press. Since July, the individual was working as a sympathizer of the proscribed group KYKL and he used to lure youths on the pretext of providing them a good job at Moreh and instead take them further across the border.

Additionally, three Kangleipak Communist Party-Peoples War Group (KCP-PWG) militants were arrested from locations including Singjamei Chinga Makha Leikai (Imphal East District), Thoubal Kshetri Leikai (Thoubal District) and Koirengei BSF camp (Imphal East District). The arrested persons are identified as Taorem James Khuman, Waikhom Johnson Kumar and Thoudam Malemnganba Singh. They are working under Thoi alias Pari of KCP-PWG. (SATP Inputs)
