GUWAHATI: Helpline no. launched for those from Assam stuck outside & need financial assistance, informed Himanta Biswa Sarma in a press conference.

Those in need can give a missed call on 9615471547

Officials and volunteers will then follow up

After this due registration process will take place and economic benefit will be provided after verification.

Sarma tweeted, "To help people of Assam stranded in other states we have launched an #AssamCOVIDHelpline No 96-1547-1547. Once people call here, they get an automated response with a link requesting them to submit their details. Upon verification, we shall submit an amount to help them."

He added, "Those who are not able to fill the links themselves, we have a group of young volunteers from Gauhati University,Assam Engineering College and Cotton College who assist these people in filling the details. Volunteers will call back everyone to take details."

This is essential because travel restrictions will stay in place for a while even if some ease is allowed post lockdown is lifted, informed Sarma.
