Hojai BDO Convicted, Gets 4-year imprisonment for accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000

Guwahati: Based on the complaint lodged by Birendra Prasad Mallah, A.P. Member of Nandapur G.P. under Dholphukhuri Block in respect of the demand of bribe money of Rs. 10,000 by Jayanta Goswami, J.E. Dholpukhuri Development Block, District-Hojai for signing on the bill of construction works under PMGSY schemes in Dhalpur Development Block, a case was registered to vide ACB PS Case No. 06/2016 U/S 7/13(1)(d)(II)/13(2) PC Act 1988.

Immediately on the strength of this case, a trap was laid on 05/07/2016 at 1.30 pm under the leadership of Jitendra Chakraborty, APS, Dy. S.P., V&AC, Assam, Guwahati and the accused Jayanta Goswami, J.E. Dholpukhuri Development Block, Dist-Hojai was arrested red handed while accepting the bribe money of Rs. 10,000 from the complainant at the former’s office premises.

The accused was arrested and forwarded to judicial custody on 06/07/2016. The case was investigated by Haremba Goswami, Inspector of Police, V&AC and charge-sheeted by Abdul Jalil Choudhury, Inspector of Police, V&AC, Assam, on 27/02/2017 vide CS No. 04/2017 dated 27/02/2017. The case was tried in the Court of Special Judge, Guwahati Spl Case No. 06/2017 and the accused Jayanta Goswami was found guilty and convicted for the offence U/S 7/13(1)(d)(II)/13(2) PC Act 1988 and sentenced to imprisonment of 4 (four) years and fined Rs. 40,000 by the Special Judge Gautam Baruah vide Judgment order dated 13.09.2019.
