India’s Women Team Bags Silver Archery World Cup

Women are not left behind now. Gone are those day, when women weren’t at all aware about their rights, abilities and future. Women of twenty first century, know it all, and excel in all. Be it in a facilitated or non-facilitated environment, they know how to break the chords or mend them with sheer perseverance and determination. It was not long before, when Hima Das from Dhing, Assam stunned everyone with her athletic performance and brought laurels to the country, that 3 more women champions evolve in sports. Three women from India made it to silver medal in the Archery World Cup, Berlin, today.

Muskan Kirar, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Trisha Deb from India, have won the silver medal in the compound women’s team event at the world cup, after having a close defeat to France in the finals. They came short of just one point in the final. They were contesting with the French team comprising of Sandra Herve, Amelie Sancenot and Sophie Dodemont, hooking at 229-228. Close cut!

India qualified as the 5^th best team in archery to the knock-out rounds and eliminated Great Britain in the first round, before beating USA in the quarter final. Three of them gave a shocking chill to the top scorer Turkey with 231-228 in the semi-finals. Both French and the Indian team stayed close to each other in the first two rounds, though, battled in different groups, followed by a substandard third round by the Indian team. The French went ahead of them by 5 points that time, but the women warriors in blue fought harder, gave a tougher beat, with all style to end the match with 59-57, 57-59, 53-58, 59-55 score (though in France’s favour). But this performance will keep all alert from the upcoming archery matches with the Indian women archery team.
