Indonesian Villagers killed 300 Crocodiles Over Revenge Attack

The crowded localities of Indonesia killed more than 300 crocodiles in revenge for the death of a man killed by a crocodile at a breeding farm. The revenge killing happened on Saturday in Papua province following the funeral of the man. The victim identified as 48-year-old Sugito, who was bitten on the leg and then fatally struck with a tail of one of the crocodiles perished while looking for grass to feed his livestock.

The massacred reptiles were kept in a lake on the estate of a local businessman in the Sorong Regency, in West Papua near a residential area. Sugito's relatives and local residents, angry over the farm's location. Basar Manullang, an employee of the farm stated that he heard someone screaming and he quickly went to help him and saw a crocodile attacking someone. After the funeral of the man, hundreds of villagers headed into into the farm with knives, marchetes and shovels to kill the crocodiles. The police and conservation agency officials were unable to stop the mob.

The farmer owned a licence to breed protected saltwater and New Guinea crocodiles for preservation of some other animals in 2013. But the reptiles should not harm the localities. To Prevent this from happening again and again , the owner of the farmer need to secure the surroundings of the farm. The police authorities are still questioning the witness for further investigation and may lay criminal charges. Manullang sated that his agency is incorporating with the police authorities to investigate the issue.
