International Day against Drug Abuse observed

KOKRAJHAR, June 27: The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed on Tuesday at the conference hall of Tezpur College, Tezpur under the aegis of Sashastra Seema Bal, Tezpur Frontier. Hundreds of students, officers, staff of SSB and their families attended the programme. Dr. KS Devi, Commandant (medical) in her keynote address highlighted the significance of the day, informed Assistant Publicity Officer, Frontier Headquarter, SSB, Tezpur V. Chinmuanthang. Resource person Md. Nazim Ahmed, secretary general of Drug Abuse Information and Rehabilitation Centre, Tezpur delivered a lecture on abuse of drugs, various types of psychotropic substances, modus operandi of drug peddlers, and suggestive measures for checking drug abuse and its trafficking. Vice-Principal of Tezpur College, S. Sarma also spoke on the occasion.

On the other hand, the Red Horns Division of the army stationed at Saraibil also observed the day where a lecture and a pipe band display was organized by the unit at Saraibil village. The enthusiasm was evident, both in terms of zeal and strength, as approximately 400 people, including students, teachers, and local villagers participated in the awareness event. The aim of this event was to give a message about nullifying the use of harmful drugs and to avoid trafficking by spreading awareness in the local community.

Along with the rest of the world, the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed by the district police on Tuesday. A grand rally was taken out in Kokrajhar town which was flagged off by Additional SP (Security) Kamal Kumar Gupta and ASP-Taburam Pegu in front of Kokrajhar Police Station. Police personnel and nurses from RN Brahma Civil Hospital strongly took part in the rally for fostering against the use of drugs and other illicit substances. The rally passed through JD Road and Hospital Road and ended in the starting point.

Talking to reporters, the Additional SP (Security) Kamal Kr. Gupta said the use of drugs was harmful for all and it could spoil the life of youths. He called upon the parents and guardians as well as conscious circles of the district to come forward against the use of drugs by youngsters and cooperate with the district police to deal with the menace of drug abuse.
