Shouting a demand to end the agrarian crisis today farmers and workers from different fields are marching from Ramlila Maidan to Parliament Street in New Delhi for a public rally.
The protesters are shouting slogans against the government’s “anti-worker, anti-people and anti-national” policies. The protesters' demands include fair crop prices, employment, remunerative prices for farmers produce and loan waiver for poor farmers and peasants.
They dubbed themselves as Mazdoor-Kisan Sangharsh Rally and this mega rally is a first of its kind combined rally by bodies affiliated to CPI(M), All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), All India Agriculture Workers Union (AIAWU) and Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU).
According to police source, the rally will begin from Ramlila Maidan to Parliament Street via Ranjeet Singh Flyover, Tolstoy Marg.
More than one lakh farmers and workers from across 23 states have arrived in Delhi since the beginning of this month upholding demands like a revision of minimum wages to fair remunerative prices for peasants.
According to Vijoo Krishnan, joint secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS), “In all, close to two lakh people will be marching to parliament in the morning." He said Everyone participating in the march is required to register and pay Rs 10 as fee.
The AIKS has arranged for food and beverages for the participants Inside the Ramlila Maidan and a medical centre has also been set up with a doctor available 24 hours. Camps ALSO have been constructed at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi AND in Ghaziabad, to shelter the protesters.
Their other major demands comprise- the Minimum wage of Rs 18000 per month for all workers, stop anti-worker labour law amendments, debt waiver for poor peasants and agricultural workers, Food security, education, health, housing and security for all workers.
