Last rites of Parshuram Dubey performed

GOALPARA, July 1: Parshuram Dubey, secretary of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, and office bearer of various Bhojpuri and Hindi-speaking organizations, who died on Saturday due to cardiac arrest at his Dhubri town residence, was cremated on Sunday at the town Swamsan Ghat of Dhubri. Earlier, people thronged his residence despite incessant rain and marched throughout the town with his body. Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Bhojpuri organizations and many others gave him final farewell. His body was also brought to the district Congress office where he was given tribute by the leaders and workers of Goalpara and Dhubri districts.

Dubey, who was in his 40s, was the former chairman of Dhubri Town Development Committee and was popular for his eloquent behaviour and selfless service to all caste and communities. He was also the party in-charge of Booth Micro Management Programmes (BMMP) in Goalpara district for Assam Pradesh Congress Committee during the last assembly election. Later, he became instrumental in regaining the assembly seat for Congress after 25 years. On Sunday, AK Rasid Alom, MLA of East Goalpara, also joined the funeral at Dhubri to express his grief and mourn the death. Dhubri district Congress president, former minister Nazibul Omar other leaders like Abu Taher Bepari, Taj Alom and Chandan Kalita were also present at the party office and prayed for the peace of the departed soul.

SILCHAR Correspondent adds: Dr Ranjan Singh, Dr D S Sharma and Bablu Upadhyay of district committees Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi, Akhil Assam Bhojpuri Parishad, have expressed their grief at his demise. Sanjeev Roy, deputy speaker of the central committee of Akhil Assam Bhojpuri Parishad has also expressed his feelings and said that it is an irreparable damage. He was 48 and is survived by his wife, a son and daughter, friends & well-wishers.
