Lions Club to set up  eye hospital in Udalguri

MANGALDAI, June 27: With a view to fulfil the long-felt need for a well-equipped eye hospital with the state-of-the-art facility for the people living in the areas of Udalguri district on the triangular boundary with Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, the Lions Club has been considering the proposal for establishing an eye hospital in Udalguri. Already, the Udalguri Lions Club has submitted a detailed proposal to the Lions Club authority.

Taking part in a special meeting of Udalguri Lions Club on Tuesday organized on the annual visit of the District Governor Lioness Radha Agarwalla of 3220 district, who arrived in Udalguri for the first time as a part of her visit to 125 districts, Lioness Radha Agarwalla appreciated the initiative of the Udalguri Lions Club for setting up of the eye hospital in a remote place like Udalguri. She also expressed deep concern over the increase in number of diabetic patients in the country as India had topped the list of diabetic patients in the world.

“The blindness control and diabetics control programme are in the preferred list of Lions Club and with the help and cooperation of the members of Udalguri Lions Club, initiative will be taken to create awareness on control of blindness and diabetics,” she assured. She in her speech also appreciated the initiative of Udalguri Lions Club led by president Lion Khagen Choudhury and secretary Lion Phani Dhar Ojha for taking up various welfare and development projects in and around Udalguri.
