Lokayukta to be Set Up in States of India: Supreme Court

On Monday, The Tamil Nadu Assembly passed a bill to set up a public ombudsman to probe into corruption-related allegations against the public servants.

The Supreme Court of India had questioned Tamil Nadu and the chief secretaries of 11 other states, as to why Lokayukta haven’t been appointed. The state minister D Jayakumar nominated the Tamil Nadu Lokayukta Bill, 2018, earlier in the day. He alleged that the Centre had previously enacted the Lokpal and Lokayukta Act, 2013, which has the provision for appointing a Lokayukta in every state.

“Accordingly, the government has decided to establish the Lokayukta for the state of Tamil Nadu to inquire into allegations of corruption against public servants,” said Jayakumar.
