3 days after the Manipur lynching case, a new angle now comes into notice as a video footage of the lynching shows armed policemen too present in the scene and taking no action on the criminals.
Reacting on the lack of common sense of the policemen present in the situation, Jayanta Singh, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Range 1 said, “strong action had been taken against police personnel seen in the video. An inquiry has been initiated against them.”
Reportedly, a 26-year-old man was lynched in an Imphal village on suspicion of vehicle lifting. The victim was later identified as Mohammad Farooque Khan, who hailed from Lilong Haoreibi, Thoubal district. The mob suspected that he had stolen a two-wheeler between 3-4 am on September 13.
Strict actions have been promised to be taken against the cops who were already on the spot of lynching on that day and witnessed the incident silently. Imphal West SP Jogeschandra Haobijam said, “Four Manipur police personnel, including one sub-inspector, who was at the spot, have been suspended on Sunday.”
It came into notice when one among the several videos circulating on social media caught the attention of people wherein armed police personnel were present on September 14 and that victim was still alive at the time.
