MET Department Warns of Heavy Rain in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati: Several areas of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have received incessant rains during the last 24 hours. Moderate showers have been witnessed in the remaining northeastern states. In Arunachal Pradesh, Passighat witnessed severe rainfall and recorded rain to the tune of 103 mm.

On Sunday, North Lakhimpur registered 72.2 mm of rain, Itanagar 23.4 mm, Cherrapunji 13.8 mm, Mazbat 13.2 mm, Imphal 2.4 mm, Tinsukia 2 mm, Dibrugarh 1.2 mm, Goalpara 1.1 mm, Agartala and Kailashahar 0.8 mm.

The MET department warned that a cyclonic current over Arunachal Pradesh has been detected which will result into moderate to heavy rains over East Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and parts of Nagaland for the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter intensity of these rains will reduce but light to moderate rains will still continue over all these areas.

Meanwhile, remaining northeastern states such as Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura including Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal are also expected to continue with light to moderate rains.

The MET department further said that the flood situations over parts of Northeast India might continue to remain same.
