LAKHIMPUR, May 13: Just as Madhavdeva cannot be separated from the life of Sankardeva, similarly a person who is not discussed much cannot be left out while the life of Madhavdeva is appreciated. He is none other than Ghagori Maji, who left his footprint in the history of Assam by extending his noble contribution to the life of Madhavdeva. Ghagori Maji gave shelter to Govinda Giri, the father of Madhavdeva, along with his family, when he was roaming here and there like a vagrant seeking shelter after being deprived by his relatives and other friends and becoming a victim of political exploitation and pecuniary difficulties. Madhavdeva was then only seven years old and he spent the crucial eight years of his life in the shelter of Ghagori Maji, along with his parents and younger sister. Ghagori Maji lived in Ghagor Sapori of Lakhimpur district on the bank of the Ghagor river and hence he became known as Ghagori Maji, instead of his original name Govinda Maji. He was a faithful friend of Govinda Giri during his difficult times.

The premier show of the first and foremost documentary on the life of this benevolent, generous person, titled as Biswa Jonin Ghagori Majhi, presented by Mangalbodh Jagaran Kendra of Lakhimpur, was held on Sunday at the Digital Classroom of North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous). On this occasion, a special programme, anchored by Pankaj Sabhapandit, was held in a befitting manner. It was chaired by Dr. Biman Chetia, the Principal of the college, while Sanjib Upadyay explained the objective of the programme.

Producer Jiten Barua addressed the gathering and spoke about various aspects of the making of the documentary. In the programme, journalist Kumud Baruah released the fourth year issue of Mangalmoy Patrika. Raghav Parjuli, professor of the Chemistry Department of the college, formally inaugurated the premier show of the documentary which is directed by Nripen Phuken and edited by Pankaj Sabhapandit. Dr Jagadish Goswami, Dr Amarendra Gogoi, poet Mukut Gogoi and writer Bharat Rajkhowa gave constructive criticism on the documentary at the end of the show.
