Shocking incident in Bangalore as Passenger Drives Himself Home with Drunk Uber Driver

Bangalore: In a shocking incident, an Uber driver was found to be in a severe state of intoxication when a passenger booked his ride from Bangalore’s Kempegowda airport to his home as the driver could barely drive the car by himself.

Raising questions on the security and customer service against the cab service provider, Surya Oruganti claimed he booked the Uber after arriving at Kempegowda International Airport, but once inside the vehicle he discovered the driver was ‘drunk and drowsy’.

Looking at the safety issue, the passenger then decided to drive both himself and the driver to safety and proceeded to drive himself home over 30km after moving the driver from behind the wheel.

Sharing his bizarre journey on the Social Media, the passenger took a photograph with the driver and shared it on Twitter and wrote: “The ride back from Bangalore airport was not quite what I expected.”

“The driver was drunk and drowsy. I had to pull the car over to the side and I drove all the way home.”

Oruganti further claimed that the driver’s identity did not match with the driver the app showed while his ride arrived.

He tagged Uber India in his post urging the company to “fix this” as it is a “serious safety issue”.

Speaking on the matter, an Uber spokesperson said, “This is a regrettable and concerning incident.”

“While we take all possible measures to ensure that drivers behind the wheel match the person shown on the app, in rare instances, when this doesn’t happen, we encourage riders to cancel their rides immediately and report the issue on the app.” He added.

Meanwhile, the driver profile was removed from the app and the company is looking into the matter.
