ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi is the primary centre of agricultural research in the Northeast. The institute is involved in research and extension support in all the disciplines of agriculture, horticulture, animal science, agro-forestry and fisheries through institute-level programmes and various exterlly-aided projects to cater the need of the hill farming community for improvement of their livelihood security. Dr YR Mee, Additiol Commissioner (Extension), Department of Agriculture, Cooperation and Farmers’ Welfare, said farmer-centric activities are organised actively and successfully under the aegis of the present government for the betterment of the farmers. The scope to directly communicate with the farmers was the highlight of the event, she added. Meanwhile, the regiol agricultural fair witnessed signing of three memoranda of understanding facilitated by the Zol Technology Magement Unit (ZTMU) of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region. A souvenir of the fair and CD on successful technological intervention for doubling farmers’ income in the region were also launched on the occasion by Singh.
