GOHPUR/BISWANATH, June 1: Former minister during the Golap Borbora reign in the State, Ram Sharma passed away on Wednesday evening at his nephew’s house at Gohpur in Biswanath district. He was 80. Better known for his simple living, Sharma held portfolios like Panchayat, Transport and Parliamentary Affairs. He had represented Gohpur LAC twice, in 1972 and 1978 from Socialist Party and Janata Dal, respectively. Though he served as a minister, he could not even own a house for himself. His death was widely mourned. His last rites were performed on Thursday. Ministers Himanta Biswa Sarma and Pijush Hazarika, and MLA of Biswanath, Promod Borthakur paid a visit to the residence of Ram Sarma on Thursday evening.
