Wonders of Assam : Dibrugarh Woman weaves entire Bhagavad Geeta on cloth

Hemprabha had earlier weaved the Gunamala and Naam Ghosa

Dibrugarh: Hemprabha Chutia of Dibrugarh has weaved the entire Bhagavad Geeta on a silk cloth in Sanskrit. The 62-year-old woman who hails from Moran in Dibrugarh district finished this magnificent creation on Sunday. The Bhagavad Geeta is a 700-year old verse of the epic Mahabharata in Sanskrit.

She had begun working her design since December 4, 2016. She used a muga silk cloth for weaving the Bhagwat Geeta which measured 150 feet in length.

"It was my great desire of completing the holy work as the Bhagavad Gita is an integral part of our culture and religion. I have earlier weaved Sankardev's 'Gunamala' and Madhavdev's 'Naam Ghosa' on cloth. I will be happy if my work is preserved in a museum," said Hemprabha.

The Dibrugarh woman who is a recipient of prestigious awards like Bakul Bon award, Aai Kanaklata award and the state government 's handloom and textile award for her excellence in weaving had earlier Srimanta Sankardev's "Gunamala" on an 80-feet Muga silk cloth in 2014. In 2016, Hemprabha had also weaved the "Naam Ghosa" written by Madhabdev.
