World Environment Day celebrated | 6 Jun, 2018

Bongaigaon, June 5: In a tune with other parts of the world, World Environment Day was celebrated in Bongaigaon also. Bongaigaon district administration had organized a day-long programme along with the forest department where several noted persons, including minister Phani Bhusan Choudhury, Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner Babulal Sarma and DIG Mridulananda Sarma were present. Greater Bongaigaon Press Club also organized a tree plantation programme in the club premises in presence of journalists. Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, in association with Samriddhi , an NGO, also planted saplings in the campus of Gyanjyoti Junior College of Bongaigaon. Chirang Army and Assam Science Society also celebrated World Environment Day.

Haflong: The 47th World Environment Day was observed in Dima Hasao in a massive way by government departments, Town Committee, NGOs and educational institutions of Dima Hasao throughout the district with the theme of 'Beat Plastic Pollution' on Tuesday. At Haflong, the day was observed by planting of trees, organizing rally to create awareness and also free distribution of saplings to the people. The Dimasa Students' Union, in collaboration with the Sengya Sambudhan Jr College observed the World Environment Day in a befitting manner at Sengya Sambudhan Jr College. The day's programme was started with plantation of trees in the college campus and was followed by a meeting-cum-discussion where importance of conservation and preservation of environment was discussed.

At Langting, under the aegis Dima Hasao Forest East Division Haflong and Langting Forest Range, the 47th World Environment Day was observed in a befitting manner. In this connection, a well-attended meeting was also held with Robindra Sengyung, Range Officer, Langting Range in the chair. Debolal Gorlosa, Chief Executive Member of NCHAC, attended as the chief guest while Biswajit Haflongbar, EM Irrigation, attended as the guest of honour. Earlier, Rotan Jarambusa, District BJP Executive Member, felicitated CEM Debolal Gorlosa and Ranger Robindra Sengyung with Dimsa 'risa'.
