Adverse Weather Conditions over NE states from May 3 to 5, IMD Reports

Guwahati: As per latest information from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the cyclonic circulation over central Assam & neighborhood extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level persists.

The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm "FANI" (pronounced as FONI) over Coastal Odisha moved further north-northeastwards with a speed of about 17 kmph in last six hours and lay centered at around 2.30 pm on May 3, 2019 over Coastal Odisha near latitude 20.5° N and longitude 86.0° E, close to Cuttack (Odisha), about 25 km northeast of Bhubaneswar (Odisha) and 170 km south-southwest of Baripada (Odisha).

It is very likely to continue to move north-northeastwards and weaken further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next six hours. It is very likely to emerge into Gangetic West Bengal as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 90-100 Kmph gusting to 115 Kmph by the early morning of May 4.

It is very likely to move further north-northeastwards and emerge into Bangladesh on May 4 evening as a Cyclonic Storm with wind speed 60-70 Kmph gusting to 80 Kmph.

Rainfall Forecast during the next 5days: The current Meteorological analysis and numerical model guidance suggest Widespread Rainfall activity across North Eastern states during 04 -05 May 2019.

As per the IMD, Heavy to very Heavy Rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Barpeta, Kamrup (R), Darrang, Marigaon, & Sonitpur with isolated Extremely Heavy falls over South Salmara Mankachar, Udalguri, Nagaon & Baksa districts. Also, Heavy Rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Lakhimpur & Cachar districts on May 4 and the districts are being kept on high alert.

Similarly, Heavy Rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Nalbari, Kamrup (M), Biswanath, Karbi Anglong (East), Golghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sibsagar & Karimganj districts.

IMD reports also claim that Heavy Rainfall is likely at isolated places over Biswanath Jorhat & Majuli districts on May 5 and with the same intensity, there are chances of Heavy rainfall on isolated places over Dhubri, Goalpara, Chirang, Barpeta, Kamrup (R), Baksa, Nagaon, Hojai, Sonitpur, West Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dima Hasao & Dibrugarh districts on the same day.

Districts of Biswanath Jorhat & Majuli are being kept on high alert on May 5.
