5 CRPF Jawans Killed in Anantnag District of South Kashmir, 1 Militant Shot Dead

Srinagar: In a sensational incident, five Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and four other security personnel suffered injuries on Wednesday when terrorists carried out an attack on a busy road in Anantnag district of South Kashmir, informed the officials.

As per reports, a terrorist was killed by security forces personnel and an AK series assault rifle was recovered from his possession.

Sources further informed that terrorists on a motorcycle attacked a patrol party of the CRPF on the busy KP Road in Anantnag with automatic rifles. They also hurled grenades at the patrol team.

Five CRPF personnel have been killed and three others injured have been evacuated to the 92 base hospital.

The Station House Officer of Anantnag Police Station, Arshad Ahmed, was also injured in the sensational terror attack after Pulwama-Terror Attack. The official was immediately shifted to Srinagar for better medical care.

Meanwhile, a joint team of the bravo company of CRPF's 116th battalion and state police were deployed for picket duty in the area when the attack took place.

According to Kashmiri news agency, the Al-Umar Mujahideen, a Pakistan-based militant group led by Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, claimed responsibility for the attack. Zargar was one of the terrorists freed by India along with Masood Azhar in return for the passengers of Indian Airlines flight IC 814 hijacked in 1999.

The attack poses major security concern days before the Amarnath Yatra begins on July 1.

It may also be mentioned that on last 14 February 2019, a convoy of vehicles carrying security personnel on the Jammu Srinagar National Highway was attacked by a vehicle-borne suicide bomber at Lethpora (near Awantipora) in the Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir, India.

The attack resulted in the deaths of 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel and the attacker. The responsibility for the attack was claimed by the Pakistan-based Islamist militant group Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The attacker identified as Adil Ahmad Dar, a local from Pulwama district, and a member of Jaish-e-Mohammed. India blamed Pakistan for the attack. On the other hand, neighbouring country Pakistan also condemned brutal the attack on the CRPF jawans and denied any connection to it.
