Two years after grand inauguration, Bokakhat facility remains unused
Bokakhat, Assam, August 16:
Constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 1 crore, the centre falls within the constituency of Agriculture Minister and local MLA Atul Bora. Despite its ambitious aim to educate farmers on modern agricultural practices, the building has never been operational since the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Envisioned as a hub for farmer training, the centre was to offer resources on advanced seeds, irrigation techniques, and sustainable farming practices. Yet, locals report the facility has remained locked and unused, leading to rapid structural decline.
Ceiling panels have collapsed, electrical fittings have been damaged, and monkeys are reportedly destroying parts of the building. Toilets and water facilities are broken, with signs of no maintenance since inauguration.
Local farmers and residents expressed deep disappointment, stating the centre could have played a vital role in agricultural advancement. "It was supposed to uplift farmers. Now it's just a ghost building,” said one resident.
Critics have raised serious concerns over the lack of oversight, especially since the project lies in the minister's own constituency. The incident has reignited calls for greater accountability and regular monitoring of public infrastructure.
So far, no official explanation has been provided by the Agriculture Department regarding the centre’s neglect.
