Alleged rape of minor girl child sparks furore outside police station in Bokajan

Bokajan: An alleged rape of a 5-year-old girl child in Phulbari area of Bokajan sparked a severe furore of residents outside Bokajan police station in East Karbi Anglong.

As per reports, the minor girl was playing outside her home when the accused Papu Gogoi allegedly abducted the child and took her to an isolated place, raped her and abandoned her fearing arrest.

Police resorted to lathi charge to disperse agitated crowd

The incident spread like fire amongst the residents and the child was later rescued by a group of villagers. The parents immediately lodged an FIR with Bokajan police following which the accused was arrested on his way towards Santipur along Assam-Golaghat border. The accused reportedly tried to escape after committing the crime.

The accused have been booked U/S 363 IPC R/W (Section 8 of POSCO Act). He was forwarded to Diphu Judicial Custody.

Later, in the evening, enraged locals gheraoed the Bokajan police station and demanded that the accused be handed to them. The protesters turned violent and started charging vehicles and public property forcing police to lathi charge and bring the situation under control.
