Assam: More Than 10 Fall Ill After Eating Pork in Dhakuakhana

Guwahati:  More than 10 people reportedly fell ill in the Malsia Chariali area of Maatmora in Assam’s Dhakuakhana on Sunday after consuming pork bought from the same roadside vendor the previous day.

The affected  people reportedly developed symptoms including nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, fever and diarrhoea. The group had purchased pork liver, heart and intestine from a roadside seller at Raghu Tiniali in Maatmora. All those who fell ill were said to have consumed meat from the same pig.

Several affected  people were taken to Dhakuakhana Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment, while others are reportedly recovering at home. Those undergoing treatment at the hospital include Narayan Panging aged 48, Maneswar Mili aged 55, Pinky Panging aged 35, Joydeep Panging aged 19, Devi Panging aged 15, Rimpi Panging aged 17, Uttam Doley aged 30, and Markle Pegu aged 50.

One victim claimed he had checked the quality of the pork with the vendor before purchasing it.

The incident has raised concerns amid previous reports of African Swine Fever among pigs in the area. Further medical assessment are awaited.
