Assamese Actor booked for allegedly running a drug-peddling racket in Guwahati

Guwahati: At a time when the Assam Police Department had launched a widespread anti-drugs campaign on prohibition and consumption in the state, a strange fact has come to light on Monday morning with the arrest of one Assamese Actor Niren Sharma in connection to drug peddling in the Guwahati city.

As per a police report, Actor Niren Sharma brother of Kailash Sharma has been allegedly running a drug-peddling racket in the city and was operating from Uzan Bazaar area since for a past couple of months.

On Sunday evening, Latasil Police based on information apprehended Niren Sharma and four other companions of the artist from Uzan Bazaar Chariali.

It is to be noted that actor Niren Sharma was cast in the several Assamese feature films. He also played a role in 90’s one of the most popular Assamese movie 'Hiya Diya Niya' starring actors like Jatin Bora, Ravi Sharma, Luna Lahokar, Pranjal Saikia, Nipon Goswami among others.

He also played a role in another Assamese feature film 'Joubone Amoni Kore' in the year 1998.

Meanwhile, Latasil Police had recovered 40 containers of drugs along with four mobile handsets, and cash Rs 1000 plus from their possession.

The other four arrested were identified as Himangshu Hazarika, Mahendra Nath, Siddharth Medhi and Abrahim Ali.
