Guwahati: Panic gripped moviegoers in Guwahati on Sunday night when a portion of the false ceiling collapsed inside a PVR cinema hall during the screening of Mahavatar Narsimha.

The incident caused chaos inside the packed auditorium, with startled audience members rushing to evacuate. Cinema staff immediately halted the screening and assisted in guiding people to safety, joined by the mall’s security personnel.

Those injured were administered first aid at the scene and are reported to be in stable condition. The severity of the collapse and the sudden nature of the incident have raised serious questions about the safety protocols in place.

Cinema Temporarily Shut for Inspection

Authorities have temporarily closed the cinema and launched an investigation into the structural failure. Engineers are expected to inspect the premises thoroughly to determine the cause and assess whether negligence was involved.

Neither PVR officials nor the mall management has issued an official statement as of Monday morning. The incident has sparked concern among frequent cinema-goers and mall visitors, with many calling for stricter safety checks in public entertainment spaces.

The cinema hall will remain shut until further notice, pending the outcome of the inspection and safety clearance.
