City bus association to stage dharna today protesting District Transport Officer & Secretary norms

GUWAHATI: Owing to a city bus strike, city commuters have to pay the price due to the scarcity of buses on Tuesday. 11 city buses were seized by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) on Monday, for flouting the new guidelines issued by the District Transport Officer & Secretary (DTO), RTA, Kamrup.

The private city bus association went on strike on Tuesday and will stage a dharna on Wednesday in front of the DTO office. The association has reasoned that more than 1000 handymen will be laid off with the order to operate city buses without handymen. They demanded that if only the government can assure financial security towards the handymen, will they comply with the new guidelines.

“Moreover, as the private buses run on lease, it is not possible to hold one permanent driver. As such, we will not paste our photograph in the front glass”, a member of the association stated.
