Dharali Devastated by Sudden Deluge
UTTARKASHI, UTTARAKHAND – At least four people have died and around 50 others are feared missing after a powerful cloudburst triggered flash floods and a landslide in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district on Tuesday.

Terrifying visuals shared on social media show a violent stream of water rushing down from the hills, sweeping away homes and leaving destruction in its wake. Screams of panic from local residents could be heard in the background, highlighting the chaos and terror as the disaster unfolded.

Uttarkashi police released images of the devastation and issued a public warning: “Everyone should maintain a safe distance from the river. Ensure that children and animals are also kept away.”

Rescue Teams Race Against Time
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the incident and confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing. "SDRF, NDRF, and local authorities are working on a war footing. I am in constant touch with senior officials," he said on X (formerly Twitter).

This disaster comes amid relentless monsoon rainfall across the state. On Monday, two people were killed in rain-related incidents in Rudraprayag, where shops were buried under debris. Flood-like conditions also affected several areas in Udham Singh Nagar, disrupting life for hundreds of families.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall across Uttarakhand today and a yellow alert for the rest of the week, warning of further risks.

Authorities continue to search for the missing as weather conditions remain dangerous.
