CM Sonowal directs Transport Commissioner for strict enforcement of Motor Vehicles Act in State

Guwahati: The Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal expressing profound grief on the loss of lives in a tragic road accident at Rongagora in Tinsukia on the occasion of 'Mahalaya' today had directed the Transport Commissioner Virendra Mittal to take measures to ensure strict enforcement of the Motor vehicle Act in the state.

In a statement, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, “I am extremely saddened to learn about the tragic accident in Tinsukia. I offer my prayers for the departed souls and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members of the victims”. He also prayed for early recovery of the injured.

Notably, three female pedestrians were killed and several people were reported injured after being hit by a speedy Innova car (AS 03H 2223) in the wee hours on Saturday morning.

As per sources, one Nirmali Baruah died on the spot and the injured pedestrians were shifted to Tinsukia Civil Hospital under critical condition.

Later, doctors confirmed the death of two more female pedestrians identified as Ritamoni Gohain and Priya Gohain.

Notably, one Ritumoni Gohain and Nipu Gohain were shifted to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh for better medication.

Angry public after apprehending the driver thrashed him severely, luckily, he was rescued by Tinsukia Police and was shifted to AMCH under critical condition. The driver was identified as Gaurav Dey.
