Rain Reveals Structural Issues on Bihar’s First Double-Decker Flyover
Patna: The much-celebrated double-decker flyover in Patna, inaugurated less than two months ago, has developed multiple cracks following recent heavy rainfall.

Built along the busy Ashoka Rajpath, the flyover was inaugurated on June 11 by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. It features a unique three-level traffic system: a 1.45 km lower deck from Patna College to BN College and a 2.2 km upper deck connecting Kargil Chowk to Shatabdi Dwar. The project aimed to ease traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in the capital.

First monsoon exposes major flaws in Bihar’s flagship infrastructure project

However, after just one round of monsoon rains, cracks have surfaced on parts of the structure, with water pooling at the damaged site. A video of the flyover, shared widely on social media, has sparked public outrage and drawn sharp criticism of the government.

“This is not just a bridge, but a vision,” the Chief Minister had declared at the inauguration. But for many residents, the vision has quickly turned into disappointment. Online users called out alleged corruption, with one X user sarcastically writing, “Bihar and corruption? A match made in heaven.”

Others questioned the lack of accountability. “The contractors and those involved will never be held responsible. It’s all taxpayer money, but who cares?” read another post.

Meanwhile, Patna remains under an orange alert due to incessant rain, causing widespread waterlogging in low-lying areas. The incident has reignited debates around infrastructure integrity and governance in Bihar.
