Cyclonic Storm ‘FANI’ weakened into depression, Heavy Rainfall Activity over North Eastern states on May 4 and 5

Guwahati: The remnant of Cyclonic Storm ‘FANI’ is now weakened into a depression and lay centred at 1130 hrs IST on May 4, 2019 over Bangladesh near latitude 24.3°N and longitude 89.3°E; about 120 km north-northwest of Dhaka (Bangladesh) and 200 km south-southwest of Dhubri (Assam).

As per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) it is very likely to continue to move northeastwards and weaken further into a Well Marked Low-Pressure Area during next 12 hours.

Rainfall Forecast during next 5 days: The current Meteorological analysis and numerical model guidance suggests Widespread Rainfall activity across North Eastern states on May 4, 2019, Fairly Widespread Rainfall activity over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura while Widespread Rainfall activity over Arunachal Pradesh on May 5, 2019 and reduction thereafter.

Wind Warnings: Strong surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail across the North Eastern states on May 4, 2019.

IMD further states in their report that Heavy to very Heavy Rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places of Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Barpeta, Udalguri, Darrang, Sonitpur, South Salmara Mankachar & Baksa districts today.

Similarly, Heavy Rainfall is likely to occur at the isolated places over Nalbari, Kamrup (R), Kamrup (M), Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Cachar, Biswanath, Jorhat, Majuli, Lakhimpur, Dima Hasao, Hailakandi & Karimganj districts.

On May 5, Heavy Rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places over Barpeta, Baksa, Darrang, Biswanath, Dhemaji, Charaideo, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia & Udalguri districts.
