Delhi Election Results: As counting begins, Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP maintains lead over BJP

NEW DELHI: As counting begins to determine the next CM of Delhi, it is Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party( AAP) which is leading over other political parties. The Delhi-based party (AAP) is now leading in 56 seats while its nearest rival BJP which had been ahead in 20 seats, is now leading in 14 seats.

State BJP chief Manoj Tiwari stated, "There are several rounds of counting. I will tell our workers there is no need to be disheartened. We are in a good position. In 27 seats, there is only a 700-1000-vote gap between AAP and BJP,"

"Anything can happen. Congress has failed to open an account yet again”, he added.

Although Aam Aadmi Party is well ahead of the Bhartiya Janta Party, the Delhi-based party is behind in at least 20 seats which it had won in the 2015 elections. For the BJP, which ran a dynamic campaign for the February 8 election, early trends show a rise of 20 seats.

A combination of five exit polls had given AAP 56 seats.

Before Delhi polls, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had come up with a “28-point guarantee card” to lure voters with promises for a better Delhi. The poll promises include curriculum on patriotism; 24/7 markets and shops; pilgrimage for senior citizens; incentives for farmers and much more.

The BJP had also left no stones unturned to come back to power in the national capital.

The Delhi Assembly election had become a question of credibility for the Bharatiya Janata Party. This was the first time since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not the face of the party. The Delhi elections have completely been Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal versus Home Minister Amit Shah. Interestingly, this has happened at a time when Shah is not the party president.

The Congress also released its manifesto for Delhi polls, promising to pass a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act if elected to power.
